George Kambosos will have the most important fight of his carreer against Lee Selby. This game will give the opportunity to meet Vasyl Lomachenko or Teofimo Lopez. The Greek-Australian fighter in an interview for Fightsports.gr, talked about his future plans, his preperation, and sents his message to Greek fans.
George there is an important fight next for you with Lee Selby. He is an experience fighter with 30 fights. You think that will be the toughest fight in your career?
«The fight against Lee Selby is extremely important. It is an official world title eliminator and an opportunity to solidify a world title shot next against the winner of Lomachenko vs Lopez. I have worked so hard since a young kid and throughout my career for moments and fights like these. Selby is experienced and has been a World Champion with multiple defences but I truly know my talent and what I possess. Just like my dominant victory against former lightweight world champion Mickey Bey at Madison Square Garden in my last fight this fight will be the same result, I will be victorious against another former World Champion.
I do not see this fight being my toughest test. I am continually improving as a fighter and getting faster, stronger, smarter and hungrier while Selby is stuck in the same position, not improving and only getting older and older. I am excited for this fight and ready to show the world again what Ferocious Kambosos is all about».
If you take the win you will have a big chance to meet Vasyl Lomachenko or Teofimo Lopez. Many fans think that you are an underdog for these fights. What is your opinion?
«Not if I take the win, it’s when I win against Lee Selby I will become the mandatory to the winner of Lomachenko vs Lopez. These are the kind of fights I thrive on and have dreamed about, the mega fights that stops the world. I know that these fights are there for the taking that’s why I’m so focused on beating Lee Selby. I don’t really pay attention to what certain fans think with me being an underdog in any fight, I just focus on the job at hand and know that I have a huge fan base that is backing and supporting me all the way to becoming Lightweight World Champion».
You have big fan base here in Greece. You fought in front of Greek crowed. Your plans for the future. Will you have a new fight in Athens?
«My fan base in Greece is amazing and it is an honour to represent our beautiful nation fighting on the world stage in venues like Madison Square Garden in New York and MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Holding our flag up high with pride is motivating, but to fight in front of my fellow Greek people and supporters live in Greece is truly breath taking, just like I did last year in Athens. Im so excited to go out and win the World Title in which I definitely have huge plans of bringing back a world title fight back to Greece in front of a huge crowd, possibly at the Olympic Stadium or even better the historic Panathenaic Stadium».
For your preparation will you meet again Manny Pacquiao?
«I have sparred over 250 rounds with the legendary Manny Pacquiao and done 3 world title campaigns alongside him. The experience I have got has been invaluable and so great for my career. I have a very good team around me and have some great young fighters alongside me in the gym in Miami. At the moment are fighting at different times so our preparations are different so we will not be training together for this fight but in the future I’m sure we will meet again and help each other out».
A message for Greek fans. What could they expect from you against Selby?
«To all my Greek fans and all my fans around the world I want to thank you all for your continuous support. When I step into that ring, I step in there with thousands of supporters behind me but most importantly with the Greek spirit and blood flowing through my veins ready for war against any man in front of me. I am a very proud Greek Australian and will continue representing both nations on the World stage».
